If you demanded an employer take down cameras watching the activities of his employees while they were on the clock and, perhaps, near cash or other valuable items, he would rightfully object to such a demand.  Just as the employer has a right to protect his property from potential employee theft, so do we have a right to protect our liberty from potential government abuse.  For this reason, freedom of the press ought to be "inviolably preserved."

Therefore, I am going to refuse to proceed with my court case (May 1, at 1:30 pm) until cameras are allowed in.  Freedom of the press is too invaluable to the protection of liberty to let its blatant violation go unchallenged.  I demand the officers and magistrates of the court show proper respect for the rights of individuals.  Someone needs to watch the watchers.

I will show up on May 1 and attend my trial as scheduled; but I will refuse to proceed with the trial without cameras there.  They are too essential to a fair trial - or, more accurately, too essential to holding judges accountable for creating unfair trials - to proceed without them.

You are all, of course, free to do as you please, but that is my plan.  Sam is still in jail and the least I can do to thank him for his bravery is try to take the absurdity of all these abuses to court and challenge them there.  Perhaps keep him company in Westmoreland, if that's what it comes down to.  But that decision is in the hands of the "authorities."  The next move belongs to them.  Let us see how many peaceful people they will throw in jail.

I talked to Lance today; he said cameras are allowed into the courtroom; they just can't film in the lobby (also, they will enforce pool coverage; that is, only one camera will be allowed and it must record from a designated position.)

A little piece I finished this afternoon:

THE EDWARD BURKE UNDERHAND   http://www.classicsforkids.com/music/music_view.asp?id=21
COPYRIGHT 2009 by Sam A. Robrin or whoever the hell it is who writes these things. Go ahead and use it (Hey, I lifted the melody!), but if you make a little money on it, I want some!

Busy day

I have made such a fool of myself on YouTube
That no cameras are allowed.
Let us move you by force to the rear star chamber
Hidden from the watching crowd.
I'm the judge, I'm appointed for a lifetime,
Bow to me upon your knees!
With no fear of account I can get away with
Anything I please.
Now the court's sound system on video feed
Will resound too softly to hear us proceed.

Laws and rules do not apply to me.
They're for the subjects, not for me!
Laws and rules do not apply to me.
Come use the system, then you'll see.

Laws and rules do not apply to me.
They're for the subjects not for me!
Laws and rules do not apply to me.
I laugh at sheep who think they're free.

We're the fountain and wellspring of law and order--
In our system, might makes right.
We will do what we can to make sure to keep your
Opposition out of sight.
If you dare try invoking the Constitution,
That makes for contempt of court.
Not unlike Shakespeare's wanton boys to frogs, we
Kill you for our sport.
Follow all procedures, you'll still miss the bus.
It's "the justice system"--and that means just us!

It's the law
It's the law
It's the law
That's me.

It's the law
It's the law
It's the law
That's me.

It's the law
It's the law
It's the law
That's me.

It's the law
It's the law
That's me.

I'm the judge
I'm the judge
I'm the judge
I'm God.

I'm the judge
I'm the judge
I'm the judge
I'm God.

I'm the judge
I'm the judge
I'm the judge
I'm God.

I'm the judge
I'm God.

Laws don't apply to me!
Laws do not apply to me!
Laws and rules do not apply to me--
To you, not me!
I make them up
While sitting here
And you'll obey them 'cause I'm me and you will like it 'cause I'll find you in contempt.

Laws don't apply to me!
Laws do not apply to me!
Laws and rules do not apply to me--
To you, not me!
To you, not me!
To you, not me!
If you don't like it, vote me out--Ha ha, you can't!  Why don't you move?  We'll come for you!

One camera?  What nonsense.  It's not a right if the government tells you when and where you can do it...

My father (a WKBK reporter) went to the Carroll/Barskey arraignment with a camera. They said "You can take it in, but if you take it out to use, you'll be risking arrest."

They are saying one thing, and enforcing another. Shocker?

Something you may want to use to bolster your case is the unreliability of court transcripts.  I've copy-edited about a hundred true-crime books, and frequently run into problems with courtroom scenes, where dialogue almost but not quite passes the coherency test.  Often the editorial eye will run over a phrase, and it's obvious that it can't possibly be right.  Then I have to figure out what went wrong, and it's usually a misspelling (such as "pail" for "pale"), or an error in punctuation.  The latter is particularly problematic when the speaker begins a sentence, thinks, stops, and starts again.  If that isn't punctuated just so, the opposite of the intended meaning can result.
